The Journey onto Mission Shaped Communities

TCF Mission Shaped Communities

A New Journey - A New Beginning!

 Right now all air flights to and from the UK have been cancelled due to the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, and the spreading volcanic ash across Europe. One of our church members who is on their way home from holiday, but presently stranded in Madrid, messaged today to say how awful it is being stranded, and having their journey delayed in this way.

The journey we are making towards Mission Shaped Communities is a very important one, that we as leaders are 100% committed to and united in. We believe God is preparing us to become a strong missionary force in this area, and we do not want anything to delay that journey unnecessarily.

So the purpose of this simple document is to outline the process for you over the next few months and hopefully answer some questions.

The next 7 Weeks– from next Sunday we will all be meeting together at The All Saints Centre each Sunday. We simply feel that it is important to bring us all together, and for us all to hear the same message and direction over the next seven weeks as we lead up to the launch of MSC’s.

There are 9 areas of vision emerging for potential MSC’s, and each week we want to share, and pray for 2 of these. At the end of those seven weeks there will be the opportunity & invitation for each of us to join an MSC.

Sunday 6th June – D DAY: A day of sending!

By this time we will be ready to launch and send out the first wave of Mission Shaped Communities. We certainly anticipate sending out 3 or 4 communities, but it could be more.

Mike and Beryl Godward will be with us that day and speaking at our celebration, and we will also be having a ‘Launch Offering’ for the work and ministry of MSC’s.

A Strong Centre – Resourcing the Mission!

From Sunday 13thJune we will be having one main meeting each Sunday (not 3 as at present). This will be part of creating a strong centre from which to resource our mission. This gathering will take place at All Saints and will be aimed at providing a worship, preaching & teaching emphasis; it will support the vision for mission; but will also become a meeting we would all be very happy to invite new people to. In line with this aim we will develop the youth and children’s programme at these meetings.

This strong centre will include our ‘First Sunday’ celebrations, along with many other resources from our leaders to equip the people of God, especially;

  • Preaching & Teaching with notes being dispersed to MSC’s each week
  • Resources to disciple new people inc. Alpha & ‘After Alpha’
  • Pastoral care of people including weddings, funerals, water baptisms etc.
  • Life resources of Marriage Course; Divorce Recovery; Marriage Preparation; BESOM; Christians Against Poverty; HOPE etc.
  • Leadership oversight, support and training for MSC and other ministry leaders
  • Prayer weeks for the church

How does this affect me?

Over the next 7 weeks we will be meeting at All Saints, and we want to encourage you to be at these gatherings with your family.

From 6thJune our first MSC’s will launch and you will be invited to join one based on your desire to serve into a particular mission context and vision.

MSC’s will increasingly become the primary way of belonging to TCF; they will meet regularly and build a strong sense of community, They will disciple people through worship, prayer and focussing on the Scriptures; and they will go together into their mission context - serving communities within Thurrock. They will be encouraged to meet weekly and may meet on a Sunday (except on our First Sunday celebration weekend).

We will also continue to have a gathering at All Saints each Sunday, for those not joining the first wave of MSC’s, and those wanting to serve into a strong centre.

We will continue to gather on the First Sunday of each month and there will be no MSC’s meeting on those weekends.

The Joy of Giving.

We will invite & encourage every adult person to support TCF financially through generous giving;

  • By beginning with a Tithe to the local Church
  • By regularly giving offerings over and above the Tithe
  • Through other opportunities for generous giving
  • By using a monthly Standing Order directly into our Bank Account (rather than through Sunday offerings)
  • Although there will be opportunity to give to needs and share possessions within your MSC as part of your care for one another and the world, there is no expectation to commit to giving regularly into your MSC in addition to or instead of giving to the local church (TCF)
