Bar'N'Bus - 'A Slice of Old England'?!!

Last Saturday (5 June), the Thurrock Bar'N'Bus made an appearance at a community fun day in Grays.

Grays Beach Bar'N'Bus Team Leader, Gary Jones     (of Thurrock Christian Fellowship), told Transformation Thurrock more about the day.

"As part of the Bar'N'Bus Team working in the Grays Riverside area we were asked by the the Seabrooke Rise Community House to be involved in a community day they called 'A Slice of Old England'."

Gary continues: "The idea of the event was around community cohesion and past events of this nature had focused on other cultures.

"This year the focus was around English culture, with tradition English fare of cakes, sweets jams etc. There was a 40's war time theme to the day with music from the time being played. Ration books were issued to people who attended so you did not get more than your fair share on the cake stall! Two people were 'Living Books' with stories of the time. An afternoon tea dance was also held."

What was the purpose of the Bar'N'Bus team's involvement?

"The team turned up on the bus and were happy to just be part of the event helping where we could. For us it was about promoting the work of the Bar'N'Bus in their area with people being able to come on the bus and see what we are all about. For me it's about being part of what the community is doing."

How did Gary feel about being a part of community day?

"These events aim to bring back the community spirit and build relationships. It was such a great privilege to be invited to be part of the event."

Gary tells us that the next Community House event is on the 21st August and again the Bar'N'Bus team have been invited along.
