The Heasley family moved to the European party capital of Ibiza in March 2005 to set up a missional community for 24-7 Prayer  built around the principles of prayer, mission and justice. They lead a small but growing community on the island and work predominantly in the west end of San Antonio, Ibiza's second largest town. The west end has the most bars, pubs and clubs per square mile in the whole of the European continent. According to a recent article in the guardian 40,000 ecstasy tablets get sold on the island everyday of the summer. Ibiza is home of the worlds largest club, Privilege, which gets 1000 visitors per night. All of this takes place on an island that is only 200 square miles and has a permanent population of just 110,000 people. The 24-7 community have a prayer room and office right in the middle of the west end from which they and 24-7 mission teams go out and work with the holiday makers and workers in that area. This summer alone they have had the opportunity to pray with over 1200 people, who would not call themselves Christians, on the streets of the west end. They have seen healings and many other God inspired connections. It is a daily challenge to live and raise a family in a world of so much excess, with Gods grace they have seen many extraordinary things happen on the streets. The Heasley family are Brian, Tracy, Ellis(10) and Daniel(8).

Newsletter from Brian Heasley

Hello!

About time we updated you on what we are up to now that the tourist season has started in Ibiza….

We have developed a regular schedule and are out on the streets 4 nights a week - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, starting at midnight and continuing until whenever we feel our work is done for the night, often around 4am. We are loving being back out there; already there are lots of stories to tell, too many to write here, but if you take a look at this page, you can read about just one night’s adventures. www.teamedmonds.blogspot.com/2007/05/you-get-what-you-pray-for.html

It’s been great to be part of the scene right from the very beginning, and we are excited to have met so many of the workers already.

We had a lovely family holiday in Tenerife in April; while we were there, we took the opportunity to meet up with a great group of guys who run a project called The Living Room. They were truly an inspiration - provoked lots of thought in us about different ways to connect with the workers. They have amazing premises from which they run a drop in centre – we felt a little envious! – but felt that God questioned us, like he did Moses in the Old Testament, saying "What have you got in your hand".

As we started to think about how we could make better use of the premises that we already rent, Steve Jeffery had an inspired idea! We decided to use our office space to offer free internet access to the workers, with a comfortable sitting area to read and chat and also to revamp our prayer space to make it easy to use for people who are not used to praying.

The prayer room looks great, thanks to the design input of friends, Sally and Robb Harman; we have set up creative ‘prayer stations’ with cards explaining what to do at each one and are praying that these will facilitate people to approach God for themselves. We are also in the process of putting together a library of books – stories of people’s journeys in finding Jesus, another idea that we took from the guys at the Living Room. Any donations of books like this for the library would be greatly appreciated.

The workers packs that we talked about before are well under way; we are just awaiting the delivery of 300 New Testaments to complete the packs. We would love to be able to hand some of these out on our official first day which is tomorrow – please pray for Fedex!!

Obviously to do this has had financial implications…. It has been amazing to see people respond to the very specific needs and we feel so affirmed by God as all of the money that we needed has come in. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this next part of the 24-7 Ibiza adventure happen!

We continue to meet every Sunday night as a community, most weeks getting together earlier to eat a late lunch together. These times, together with our daily prayer times are great for strengthening our relationships with each other as a community.

It’s so good to have a larger permanent team now, with 7 of us sharing the work - Steve, Dawn, Helen, Ben and Becky and ourselves - we are able to do so much more without anyone getting burnt out.

We have 4 teams booked for July through to September so far, as well as a number of individuals who are coming out for 6 – 10 weeks specifically to work as part of the 24-7ibiza project.

Brian was pleased to be re-elected as president of the parents association and is taking the year 10 PHSE lesson for a 6 week period, teaching drugs and alcohol awareness. Tracy continues to do some special needs assistance for 3 hours a week until the end of term.

Ellis is now in his final term of junior school – hard to believe – and will take his SATS shortly. He and Dan have joined an after school football club and have lots of friends from school that they spend time with at the weekends and after school.

We are very conscious of having good family time together in the midst of all the strange hours that we work; please pray that we can keep this up as it just gets more and more hectic from now on.

And finally, as always, a huge thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement – we couldn’t do this without you.

With love from

Brian, Tracy, Ellis and Dan
